Things You Should Know Before Moving to Northern Virginia

By Doug Francis

Potomac Street and Hog Alley Harpers Ferry West Virginia

Relocating here? Well, when I started Things You Should Know Before Moving to Northern Virginia (updated in 2019), I had to force myself to stop at fourteen "things". Over the years I have heard myself giving these tips over and over to clients who are relocating here, so, I thought that I should put down my observations for the world to Continue Reading

Perspective Impacts Local Real Estate

By Doug Francis

Beach in Lewes Delaware

I went out of town over July 4th to enjoy the beach in Lewes, Delaware with the family, and accidentally observed the local real estate market and the way agents work there. Having been an agent in Northern Virginia for 19 years and seen behind the advertising/image personas (the curtain) of many real estate agents, I thought about how easily home Continue Reading

In Real Estate, Online Photos are Essential

By Doug Francis

Doug Francis Northern Virginia Home for sale

You would think that Northern Virginia Real Estate agents would get it by now, but I am still seeing some really bad house photos being posted online. It is a trend that a lot of agents across the country poke fun at, and even have blogs of the worst photos seen in their MLS. Anyone who is looking for a home to buy is starting out on the Continue Reading

Vienna, VA Home Sales Stats | Hyper Local March 2010

By Doug Francis

Image by lukiffer via Flickr March came roaring in like a lion in the real estate market as buyers literally surged in once the snow melted and the sun started to shine making our world green again, so next month's numbers will be impressive. Selling a Home before the Bank Forecloses

By Doug Francis

Image by respres via Flickr As the closing date approached on one of my recent listings in Fairfax, VA, my clients who had moved due to a job-loss informed me that they had not made mortgage payments for the past few months. Now, when I am filling in my listing paperwork there is a section where I have to ask, “Are you current on your Continue Reading

Real Estate short sales may just start your headache

By Doug Francis

Image by Rev Dan Catt via Flickr When people sell their home for less than they owe on their mortgage it is called a "short sale".  And these can give short-sale-sellers the impression that the agreement to repay the amount borrowed has been satisfied, and that it is time to move-on like in a traditional sale. You pay, you stay... if you Continue Reading

Your house has an ice dam? Part 2

By Doug Francis

Today everyone seemed to be having issues with ice dams clogging their gutters causing all sorts of water problems in their homes. Melting water from your roof hits your gutters and refreezes when temperatures are below freezing for an extended period of time.  Most water flows over the ice forming icicles, but it slowly builds up until the water Continue Reading

Vienna real estate agent Doug Francis

When we bought our house in Vienna, we were thinking about raising the kids, building an addition, and knowing the neighbors. Today, many of those great neighbors have retired and I was able to help them take that next step smoothly.

So, what’s next after your 25 years? It’s a conversation many of my clients are having with me as they plan to move to the beach, travel, or get closer to grandkids. Helping them see their future, sell their current home, and move ahead with their updated plan has been an interesting new chapter.

My background: I am an active licensed agent in Virginia, have negotiated hundreds of sales contracts, work at TTR Sotheby’s International Realty in McLean, and help clients get organized helping maximize the value for today’s home buyer. I donate to the Town of Vienna tree replacement fund, participate in a neighborhood citizens association, and try my best to stay in shape.

Let’s discuss your moving plans: Email doug@dougfrancis.com or call me at (703) 304-6827 .  Cheers!
