No short-term loans as HUD pulls the plug

May 19, 2009 By Doug Francis

Well, the Tax Credit loan plan is off the table, and HUD took the memo off the web site too. It seems that someone decided to analyze some potential issues... which should have been done before posting it on the crazy world of the Internet. I started to read about this new program in a few blog posts over the past few days and then asked a few Continue Reading

The short-term loan for the first-timer tax credit program…

May 19, 2009 By Doug Francis

We want our $8,000 first-timer tax credit at closing! And we aren't gonna wait! "Okay"says HUD Assistant Secretary Montgomery in the "Mortgagee Letter 2009-15" that is dated May 11th. Of course you can't take out the whole $8,000 at closing since there are fees and expenses that need to be paid, and the $8,000 hard limit can't be exceeded. So Continue Reading

If you rebuild the I66 and Route 123 overpass, then you will get elected in Virginia

May 15, 2009 By Doug Francis

This 1/2 mile stretch of Interstate 66 needs rebuilding right now . There must be existing VDOT designs to make this a "shovel-ready" project qualifying for immediate federal funding. The problem is I66 tapers down in both directions to get under the existing 1960's era overpasses, and when rush hour hits or there is one lane blocked, it causes Continue Reading

McLean lender reports mortgage rates increased last week, watch out!

May 8, 2009 By Doug Francis

(2009)Mortgage rates in Northern Virginia will likely stay close to their current range for the rest of the year, if you ask me. So don't panic home buyers... your rate should be there. Next week is the mid-year NAR conference in Washington D.C., and you should expect the usual cast of characters to address the one-million member association. Continue Reading

It takes more than the crystal ball to understand real estate

May 5, 2009 By Doug Francis

Are you still looking into that crystal ball? You know, like when you were searching for the bottom of the market, the lowest interest rate to refinance, or if the economy is sending a signal of a turn around. In the April 27th issue of BusinessWeek, there was an article titled "What Good are Economists Anyway?" that really put the screws to Continue Reading

Are you a sick and tired home seller?

April 29, 2009 By Doug Francis

It is a good question. Are you a sick and tired home seller? Then I ask that you call your agent right now and that's a sales tip (see below). We have all seen the airport and health personnel wearing masks or scanning people for fevers, all looking for swine flu suspects who are traveling home from a trip abroad. Yes, I said HOME the place Continue Reading
