Okay, it’s official. I have gone diesel.
Way back in January, I put on my schedule replacement of my long-time business companion… my SAAB.
Beside the fact SAAB went out of business and repairs were getting a tad expensive, what I really wanted to improve was my gas mileage. Yes, real estate agents still drive from place to place and the SAAB’s mpg wasn’t very impressive.
Welcome the VW Passat TDI.
What will be hard to ignore is that I will almost double my around-town mpg. Fuel costs will be an interesting expense to track since I am forecasting that I will save almost $900 a year. Hey, that’s real money!
My second post in a row about driving… it wasn’t intentional.
Driving in Northern Virginia is a fact of life, and driving in bumper to bumper traffic is possible at any hour of the day. Having a car that gets 18 miles per gallon while slowly rolling through Tysons or along Interstate 66 really wasn’t making sense.
Having a car that gets 30 miles per gallon does.
Electric and hybrid enthusiast are probably getting ready to tell me how wrong I am, but, please know that none of those cars really appealed to me. I might be a middle-aged guy but I am still concerned with cool. And this new VW TDI fit the cool quotient.
Anyone who is relocating here needs to understand that traffic around DC is terrible. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, we are second to New York in “long commutes”. These commutes are factors that influence house prices in close -in areas like Arlington, McLean or Vienna. So, to get a car that gets better mileage when stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic made sense to me.
Did I mention that it is Night Blue?
