The skyline of Tysons or Tysons Corner is rapidly changing as construction is well underway of new commercial and residential buildings.
The driving force of the construction has been the building of the Silver Line Metro which is part of the Washington DC Metro system. The Silver Line runs along the Orange Line tracks to West Falls Church where the new spur begins.
Trains travel towards McLean to the Capital One Headquarters which is seen in the video just beyond the Capital Beltway. Capital One is currently building a new tower that is not yet visible to complete their campus. My understanding is that it will be the tallest building in Fairfax County when completed.
Trains then travel into Tysons to the Tysons Corner station seen in the hyperlapse video.
The Silver Line continues down Route 7 along the Vienna side with multiple stops. After Spring Hill Station, the train continues the Wiehle Metro Station in Reston.
The second phase of the project is underway which will take Metro to Dulles International Airport. The target completion date is 2018. (yikes!)
Fairfax County planners will need to accommodate residents by building new schools around the development in Tysons Corner, McLean, Reston and Vienna. Infrastructure improvements are essential to maintaining the quality of life that attracts new residents, and with Fairfax County Public Schools exceeding capacity today there is a dire urgency to address this issue.
Overall, residential real estate values have improved since the Silver Line project was approved, and new Fairfax Connector bus routes have been established to allow residents additional access to the stations.
