Glass recycling in Vienna

Vienna’s glass recycling dumpster on Mill Street

The glass dumpster is BACK!

A glass recycling dumpster is available on Mill Street NE near Capitol Building Supply, Sheets Lumber or on your way to Caboose Tavern in Vienna. Pay attention, you’ll need to start visiting it weekly because…

As you may know, glass picked up with your curbside recycling now goes to the landfill. The old plan of “single-stream collection” did not work as the recycling industry changed.

Know that glass in your recycle bin actually goes to the dump and is added to the landfill.

So, NO GLASS in your recycling bins anymore.

Now you can recycle your glass in Vienna!

This may seem “old school”, and I remember when we had to bring everything to dumpster recycling centers. I think there was even a cardboard one near the Community Center and W&OD Trail in the 1990s.

Glass recycling in Vienna is possible again now that Fairfax County has placed a purple glass recycling dumpster in the Town of Vienna!

This glass will now go to Fairfax County glass crusher in Lorton, and then can used in construction projects such as bedding under pipes instead of using rocks. It saves landfill space and reduces the need for tons of stones under the stormwater pipe or roadbed.

The glass crusher can pulverize up to 20 tons an hour into various grades of sand and gravel for paving, construction, or stormwater projects.
