Glass recycling in Vienna

Purple glass recycling location in Vienna Virginia
Vienna’s glass recycling dumpster on Mill Street

A new glass recycling dumpster is now available on Mill Street NE near Capitol Building Supply, Sheets Lumber or on your way to Caboose Tavern in Vienna. Pay attention, you’ll need to start visiting it weekly because…

As you may know, glass picked up with your curbside recycling now goes to the landfill. The old plan of single-stream collection did not work as the recycling industry changed.

Know that glass in your recycle bin actually goes to the dump and is added to the landfill.

So, NO GLASS in your recycling bins anymore.

Now you can recycle your glass Vienna!

This may seem “old school”, but I remember when we had to bring everything to dumpster recycling centers. I think there was even a cardboard one near the Community Center and W&OD Trail in the 1990s.

Glass recycling in Vienna is possible again now that Fairfax County has placed a purple glass recycling dumpster in the Town of Vienna!

This glass will now go to Fairfax County glass crusher in Lorton, and then can used in construction projects such as bedding under pipes instead of using rocks. It saves landfill space and reduces the need for tons of stones under the stormwater pipe or roadbed.

The glass crusher can pulverize up to 20 tons an hour into various grades of sand and gravel for paving, construction, or stormwater projects.

About Doug Francis

A successful Realtor specializing in unique homes around Vienna, Virginia, Doug started writing a first-hand blog about his everyday real estate experiences a decade ago. In depth, helpful and fun was the objective. Outside real estate, he had fun in a tech commercial for Verisign's "Where the World Clicks" campaign, and was quoted in Money Magazine's Best Places to Live article on Vienna. He's a Boston University graduate who feels morning coffee is a must to keep life interesting.

Navigating real estate websites can get boring quickly since they have the same photos, seller or buyer tips, or multiple links to salesy sites. This site is intentionally different, written from my first-hand perspective to share helpful insights.

This isn’t a part-time gig for me. So, when I’m giving perspective, answers, or strategy, you’ll understand that I’m going to focus on your real estate goals.

I actually started this site as a resource for my clients, but today I have readers who are searching for answers across the Vienna area.

My background… I’ve been an active licensed agent in Virginia for 25 years, work at TTR Sotheby’s International Realty in McLean, and sell homes in all price ranges. I donate to the town tree replacement fund, participate in a neighborhood citizens association, and try my best to stay in shape.

sewer line inspection

Add a Sewer Scope to your Home Inspection

Having a home inspection continues to be essential for anyone who is buying a home in the Vienna real estate market. Since Virginia is a “caveat emptor” state, home buyers will often learn more during a three hour inspection than they would in three years of living in the house. Home inspections are important and […]
