After the Covid-19 crisis, there are far fewer donation programs going on at business offices around Northern Virginia. The problem is that the demand for blood has remained the same as in 2018.
The easiest way for you to become part of the Northern Virginia community is to become a regular blood donor. Yes, you can “give back” by spending about an hour of your time in one of the blood donor centers that are set up across the area.
The need: Over 200 units a day
Here are the Donor Center locations in Northern Virginia (8/2023):
- CentreMed – in Centreville on Route 28. 6201 Centreville Road
- Fairfax Hospital~ Medical Park – . 3289 Woodburn Road
- Dulles Town Center -45745 Nokes Boulevard, Sterling
- Inova Mount Vernon Hospital -2501 Parkers Lane, Alexandria
Please check out the INOVA Blood Donor Services page for operating hours ~ walk-ins are encouraged!
You will also see the Blood Mobile at locations like the Vienna VA Community Center, Tysons Corner and the Reston Town Center.
According to the Inova Blood Donor Services web site, the Washington D.C. area needs over 200 units of whole blood a day to help save lives. And recent studies show that only 37% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate, and of that amount, only 5% donate blood on a regular basis.
Only about 5% donate blood regularly
Take a look at the chart and see where your blood type lines up. It is time to make a commitment to help the community and maybe save the life of someone you will never meet. Thanks!
