Just up Beulah Road from my house in Vienna is Meadowlark Botanical Garden. Under the supervision of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, this 95 acre treasure is worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Tyson’s or Reston.
I will save the technical information like the list of trees native to Virginia for their web site, but there are walking trails, gazebos, ponds, bridges, sculptures and more. There is plenty of parking and admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids. A nice visitor center, and a special building for wedding receptions if that gives you any new ideas.
A “must see” if you are coming to Vienna Virginia!
You can see all my photos on Flickr that were taken in July 2009. It was a hot afternoon but there was a gentle breeze the whole time as we strolled.
My plan is to add photos to show Meadowlark Gardens in all four seasons. There are a wide variety of flower gardens but also groves of trees and fern pathways.
This was once a family farm that was donated to Fairfax County with the intent of creating this wonderful sanctuary.
I feel that the Park Authority’s web site is pretty low key especially for a Fairfax County treasure for gardeners, nature lovers, or those eager for an afternoon adventure. Hopefully some of my pictures will encourage you to explore the beauty of this unique spot.
There is even a 19th century restored cabin used for nature and art classes.
